Lancaster 2 vs Southport 1

Lancaster 2s started their season off with a home game against Southport 1s. The away side were quick to get started with some great link up passing from one side of the pitch to the other. Lancaster settled after 5 minutes and gained a foothold in the game, keeping the ball and moving up the pitch as a team.

Southport struck first catching Lancaster on the break, the initial shot was saved by the Lancaster goalkeeper but the rebound fell straight to a Southport player who calmly slotted the ball home. Southport fired home again 3 minutes later with a reverse stick shot firing high into the net.

Lancaster rallied together and held Southport until 5 minutes before the end of the first half when Southport scored another well worked team goal.

After half time Lancaster were the more determined team, the Lancaster midfield and attack gained possession and worked together to earn many short corners. Lancaster pushed for a goal only to see every shot being matched by the Southport goal keeper.

Southport didn’t give up and kept pushing for another goal. The Lancaster defence held strong though and maintained a clean sheet in the second half.

The game ended Lancaster 0, Southport 3.
