Timperley 2s 0-2 Lancaster 1s
Lancaster travelled to Timperley on Saturday to continue their run of form.
It was the home team that started quickly putting the Lancaster defence under pressure but Ella Bookless and Angie Evans-Hill worked together on the right hand side to keep the ball away from danger.
Lancaster broke the deadlock from a well worked penalty corner routine that saw Alice Boston score a cheeky reverse stick deflection into the goal.
3 minutes before half-time, Lancaster found themselves down to 8 players. Despite this the remaining players defended strong and kept the ball away from the defensive D. Nina Helme and Katie Oliver held the ball up and smashed the ball off the baseline until players could return to the pitch.
Into the second half, Lancaster were still a player down. Despite this the team continues to pile the pressure on the Timperley defence. Lancaster won a penalty corner, just before the ball crossed the line the umpire blew for another penalty corner. Credit to the Timperley goalkeeper who made a number of fine saves.
Lancaster continued to work hard in the midfield. It was Katie Oliver who gave Lancaster 2-0 lead with 15 minutes to go.
With seven minute to go Timperley earned a number of penalty corners that Ali Standeven-Johns chased down each time. On one penalty corner the ball was struck hard at goal and a deflection came off Standeven-Johns stick that looped towards goal. Leighan Bleasdale was alert and parried the ball over the crossbar. Timperley came again but a penalty corner routine hit the post before being cleared away by Jayde Christeansen.
Timperley’s best chance came when they were driving the baseline and a foul was judged to have prevented a goal scoring opportunity and a penalty stroke was given. Bleasdale presented herself as big as possible and made a diving save to keep the clean sheet intact.
Another three points for Lancaster who remain 3rd in the division.
