Lancaster 1st team welcomed Garstang 1st team on Saturday.

Lancaster had the majority of possession despite Garstang pressing hard. A lapse in concentration allowed Garstang through for a one on one, goalkeeper Leighan Bleasdale did enough to put the Garstang forward off although was lucky not to have given away a penalty stroke or be given a yellow card.

Nicola Conway broke the deadlock with a fantastic reverse stick strike that went through the goalkeeper’s legs.

Garstang worked hard to pressure the Lancaster defence although Sarah Kettlewell and Nina Helme kept calm passing out wide for Ella Bookless and Holly Hunter to run onto. The Garstang goalkeeper made a couple of fine saves to keep the deficit only 1-0.

Lancaster made a mistake and gave up possession too easily in the defensive quarter for Garstang to pass it quickly into the D, working it around the defence for an easy tap in. Making it 1-1 at half time.

Into the second half and Lancaster had to defend a number of penalty corners. Ella Bookless parried every attacking threat away. Into the final minutes and Garstang won another penalty corner but Bleasdale was alert and kept the ball out by diving full stretch to the right-hand side of her goal.

Only 20 seconds remained and Lancaster had a side line in the defensive corner. The ball was lost cheaply and a poor tackle soon followed that was instantly upgraded to a penalty corner. Garstang managed to agonisingly get the ball over the line in the final second of the match much to the dismay of the Lancaster crowd. The team travel to University of Liverpool on Saturday hoping to turn their luck around and get back to their scoring ways.
