Didsbury Northern 2s 0-0 Lancaster 1s
Lancaster travelled to Didsbury Northern in what was the early match in the North West Women’s Premier Division.
Lancaster started brightly and kept possession until a gap opened, earning a number of early penalty corners. Nicola Conway was unable to convert as the Didsbury goalkeeper and defence cleared their lines.
The Lancaster defence of Nina Helme, Zoe Oswald, Ella Bookless and Hayley Standeven-Johns remained strong, keeping the Didsbury forward line at bay for the majority of the first half.
Didsbury did earn a couple of short corners in the first half, but Leighan Bleasdale was alert to the danger making initial saves for Standeven-Johns to clear wide for Bookless to carry the ball forward at speed.
Into the second half and Lancaster had the majority of possession but found it difficult breaking down the defence. The Didsbury goalkeeper was without doubt their player of the match making a number of fine saves.
As Lancaster pressed for a winner, they were caught short as Didsbury managed to break down the wing. Helme sprinted back and used her experience to prevent the player shooting at goal giving away a penalty corner with 3 minutes to go. Player of the match Ella Bookless was determined to earn the first clean sheet of the season and cleared all danger away. The final score ending 0-0.
