Lancaster 2 vs Garstang 2

This weekend Lancaster 2s welcomed Garstang 2s and it turned out to be a nail biter until the end. Garstang started the game the stronger of the two teams. For the first 20 minutes Lancaster were pinned in their own half, the Lancaster defence soaked up the pressure. Lancaster caught Garstang on the counter attack which saw Lancaster run the ball up the pitch, before Julie Walker found Emily Verden in the D who calmly slotted the ball home before she was wiped out by the Garstang goalkeeper who had attempted to thwart her shot. Lancaster led 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Garstang were urged on by this and once again came on the offensive. 2 minutes before the end of the 1st half Garstang struck with a well worked team goal, levelling the score 1-1. After the half time team talk Lancaster were riled and ready, they started the 2nd half the stronger of the two teams earning a number of short corners. Soon after Julie Walker converted one of them, smashing the ball from the left slip position into the corner of the goal, leaving the goalkeeper no chance of reaching it.

Lancaster were motivated by this and pushed once again, with 15 minutes to go Julie Walker once again found Emily Verden with a pass from the right side of the D to the back post where Emily was waiting to tap it home. Lancaster led 3-1. Garstang were not deterred by this and continued to fight, with 3 minutes to go they scored a goal back making it 3-2. For the next 3 minutes every Lancaster player was behind the ball, fighting to keep Garstang out. The final whistle blew before Garstang could find the equaliser, earning Lancaster back-to-back wins with the game ending Lancaster 2s (3) v (2) Garstang 2s.
