Lancaster 2 vs Brookfield 1

Lancaster 2s travelled to Preston to play Brookfield 1s this weekend. Brookfield started the better of the two teams with some great link up play down the middle releasing players left and right. Lancaster managed to hold them out until the 20th minute when a well worked team goal was fired into the top corner. 5 minutes later Brookfield struck again with another well worked team goal which saw Rebecca Halliwell make a save but the deflection bounced into the path of a Brookfield player who slotted the ball home.

Half time came and Lancaster re-grouped, despite the score being 2-0 they were not deterred. 5 minutes into the 2nd half and Brookfield struck again, 3-0. Lancaster didn’t give up though, Katie Oliver and Julie Walker linked up down the middle of the pitch, which saw the initial Lancaster shot saved by the goalkeeper but Julie Walker was alert and slotted the ball home. Lancaster were spurred on by this and 5 minutes later Julie Walker saw the ball passed to her at the top of the D, she calmly received the ball, turned and smashed the ball past the out-lunging keeper, 3-2.

Brookfield didn’t give up though, and whilst Lancaster were pushing for the equaliser, they were quick to counter attack. 5 minutes before the end they earned a short corner. The initial shot took a deflection off a Lancaster stick which took it up and over the diving Halliwell.

The game ended Brookfield 1s 4, Lancaster 2s 2.
